The day after her first birthday Bailee woke up with a swollen ankle. Over the course of the next 3 months this swollen ankle never went away. During that period of time it was diagnosed first as a mere sprain, later a stress fracture, she even wore a cast for 4 weeks. Shortly after getting that cast off she stopped bearing weight on the leg. She stopped walking all together.

Bailee went through a four day stay at the hospital where she had an MRI and was diagnosed with a small tissue infection in the arch of her foot. On that diagnosis she was given a round of antibiotics and sent home.

In the days to follow we saw no improvement, she stopped bearing weight on one of her arms and so stopped crawling as well. Back in the hospital yet again, she was finally seen by a pediatric rheumatologist. He simply felt her troubled foot as well as other joints and immediately suspected JRA. Over the course of a 6 day stay in the hospital, lab work would confirm his theory.

In January 2009 Bailee was diagnosed with Juvenile Rheumatoid Arthritis. She was unable to bear weight on her left leg or wrist. Various other small joints were subject to swelling and stiffness. Since then life has changed a lot.

Today Bailee takes Naprosyn daily. She receives Methotrexate weekly, as well as the frequent blood work that accompanies it. Twice a week she has physical therapy. She wears special shoe insoles to help arch her left foot, and once every three months she has a full eye exam.

We're happy to say that thanks to the thoughts, prayers, and support of family and friends, as well as the special care and treatment of doctors, therapists, and everyone involved, Bailee is doing very well. As a matter of fact, she's back to walking, crawling, and simply enjoying being a kid.

Help us make a stand against arthritis. Walk, donate, or just help us spread the word! Let's Move Together to improve lives and reduce the pain of arthritis.
